Winston's Wish
is the leading authority in childhood bereavement and the largest provider of services to bereaved families in the UK. The charity was established 16 years ago in response to a recognised need for bereaved children to receive support developed especially for them. Our vision is that bereaved children, young people and their families will receive the support they need. We exist to create more positive futures for bereaved children, helping them to live with their grief, build confidence, develop self-esteem and reach their full potential. Our mission is to provide professional services to grieving children who have been bereaved, to enable them to live with their grief so that they can face the future with hope and confidence.

Our services include:

  • The National Helpline for anyone caring for a bereaved child, offering support, guidance and information by experienced clinicians
    08452 03 04 05.

  • An interactive website with many pages designed specially for young people www.winstonswish.org.uk

  • Group work with bereaved children and their families - 'Camp Winston' one of our residential weekends. We now hold seven residential camps a year that include camps for children bereaved through suicide and murder.

  • Face to face work with bereaved children and their families.

  • A wide range of publications and resources for both parents and carers.

  • Tailor-made training for professionals including health service professionals and police family liaison officers.

Every 22 minutes a child in the UK is bereaved of a parent; this equates to over 24,000 new children each year learning to live with their grief. Winston's Wish is now recognised as extremely important by health professionals and police officers across the UK. Each year as we become more well known, the demand for our services grows and the need for funding increases. During the present year we will require 1.5 million to cover the running costs of the organisation and we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations.
