NOTES:
To get used to the Arctic conditions we were only allowed inside the training building for;  Lessons & Survival Planning, Food Prep and Navigational Route Planning. Also, planning on how to look after all aspects of your own equipment as this will be vital during the race.

If anything breaks or goes wrong, (for example: Skis bindings, frozen tent zips, rip to the tent, broken piece of equipment or broken small stove to cook with etc) it will be your own responsibility to be able to fix this immediately. If you cannot fix the repairs or adapt whilst out in the North Pole your race will end very very quickly with the extreme cold conditions and the sub zero temperatures and the dangers surrounding this.

Most of all not forgetting the Predatory Polar Bears that are ever present to look out for!!

At the end of 5 days of planning and preparing for the race whilst in Resolute Bay and very little sleep, you are constantly being assessed by the lead instructors and team to assess your competency and leadership skills. If they have any doubt or question mark regarding your ability, you will not be entered in for the race nor the 5 day walk to the start line.

This is because of the extreme danger to life whilst in the North Pole, as we will be on our own from when the Polar Challenge race starts until reaching the finish line..
